GIS based methodology to analyse the public transport supply: Hungarian case studies

The paper aims to introduce a new way of comparing the efficiency public transport operations based on publicly available data. It draws four main sources, Hungarian Central Statistical Office, provider data, GTFS and OSM map layers. Methodologically, it combines use format corresponding static timetable component files, Thiessen polygons empirical selection relative indicators. As places research, three comparable cities have been selected by their population size; Pécs, Szeged Miskolc. comparison consists 8 quantitative indicators that cover six major geographical aspects operation (accessibility in terms proximity, capacity, connectivity, density, frequency velocity vehicles). analysis does not consider mode transport, thus opening up possibility an independent regardless various infrastructure characteristics. results show Miskolc Pécs achieved best values On contrary, city Szeged, despite its diverse structure modes, advantage any aspect. relatively loosely anchored methodology leaves room for extension include economic, environmental, other specific factors.
